A Personal Analysis of DOOM 1993

What is DOOM 1993? You’ll soon find out, as I am tasked with telling you about the game play of DOOM 1993 and I will be going over the basics of the game’s development. I am also tasked with telling you about my experiences with the game.

DOOM 1993 was developed and published by the same company that made the most recent addition to the DOOM game series, id software. The game was released on December 10th, 1993 on the MS-DOS. In DOOM you get to play as a space marine known as Doomguy who is tasked with becoming a peaceful envoy with the demons. Except this time you are about as good at that as the UN peacekeepers are at actually keeping the peace. All jokes aside, as you play through this game you’ll be fighting hordes of demons as they invade humanity. The first episode of the game, which was comprised of nine levels and was free and given out on shareware. Which ended out working wonderfully as a kind of demo for the full game which had two more episodes on it, available for purchase through mail order. And an updated version with even more episodes called DOOM Ultimate was sold in 1995. While an exact number of sold copies isn’t entirely known, t’s estimated that there was fifteen million to twenty million copies sold over the first two year of the games release. A year prior to the release of DOOM 1993 id software released a game called Wolfenstein 3D, which is considered to be the grandfather of all first person shooters. And speaking of others things that are considered by people, DOOM is another one of those older games that are considered to be one of the best games of all time and spawned many “DOOM clones”.

My experience with the DOOM series is limited to say the least, as I have only beaten DOOM 2016, and my only experience with the older games game by id software is through Wolfenstein 3D, which I beat. I remember being a sad lonely boy in the back of the bus in my early high school years and playing through Wolfenstein 3D, I played the game constantly on my hour and a half long bus ride home every game. And I became really good at it, but could rarely beat mecha Hitler because he’d kill be and I go in again and again and constantly run out of ammo. But that’s beside the point. I can only assume that DOOM 1993 is plays a lot better on with a controller, because I know that I play a lot better on with a controller then I do with mouse and keyboard, so playing emulated DOOM 1993 was difficult for me, I couldn’t figure out of to shoot for a while and once I did I couldn’t figure out to open doors. It was a painful experience, but I got through it.

In conclusion, I think that DOOM can be a very fun game once you get the hang of it. I put about 3 hours into it and after I figured out the controls I enjoyed myself in it. Speaking on the controls though, its very weird that I can go and control movement with both the mouse and the keyboard and in intense moments I would get things mixed up and it would usually lead to taking a lot of unnecessary damage and sometimes death. Thank you for taking the time to read this, I am sorry this one is a bit late. I am having motivational problems, but I am getting it figured out so there is nothings to worry about hopefully.
